Helsinki - Fågelvik 58.93 km
No HUH HUH is what my Finnish friends would say - this was a true first adventure day with an unexpected turn. We started with good hopes in the morning. It was cloudy and not cold. After about an hour of riding along thhe beautiful Espoo coast it started raining... Well, what would my parents say? "We're not made of sugar" (that's a German saying, not sure of you can translate it to English like this, but you get the idea) So we happily cycle on, even find a nice café "pupusaari" (bunny Island) on the way, and get in the true heavy rain after that. Still all good, we're having a good laugh and funny downhills with barely no sight because of the rain. Then, 40 km down the road somewhere before Kirkkonummi I cannot continue. "Antonio, I'm stuck" I say, check, don't see anything right away. But my back tyre doesn't move. Hmm. Then, I see it. "Oh shit" My fully loaded bike rack broke, the metal wasn't strong enough. Damn, what now? It rains, we're stuck. Go to the next bus stop, try to Google and phone all possible bike repairs that are open on a Saturday afternoon, no one can assist us. The bus driver cannot take us with the bikes. It's only a few kms until Kirkkonummi, so we decide to reload my luggage to Antonio's bike and carry the rest on us and somehow get there. Made it, visit the big K Citymarket. They have some bike stuff, but no rack. In the meantime Antonio finds one shop in Espoo that has bike racks and it still open. So we decide to park the bikes, Antonio guards them and I go to the shop and buy a new bike rack. For that I go half the way back by bus that we had just before biked. Luckily they had a stable new bike rack that I bought and went back by bus. Then some food, taking out the old, installing the new rack, reloading, continue. It worked! We were both very happy. It even stopped raining at that point. Now we continued to the countryside of Siuntio and found a nice spot on the lake to camp. What a first day!
New rack installed :D
well, great reaction! It's good that it still happened in civilization and not in the vastness of southern Sweden .. The GOOD: With the new bike rack you drive to germany :-). Have a good trip. Mutti und Papa
